Duration:
Spring 2022 Jan - April
Project Vision
The Honey Berry Cafe App is an ordering app that will allow users to order online easily and quickly without frustration.
Challenges
1) Create a user flow that is easy to follow
2) Create an app that is organized
3) Create an app that has an easy ordering process
User Research & Understanding
I interviewed a sample of five participants when conducting research for this project.
Ordering Apps
Using apps to order food in your life is common, and 50% of participants I interviewed agreed. They stated that they use at least one app to order food daily.
Deeper Understanding
The use of ordering apps continues to grow. However, 75% of participants noted they had a hard time finishing the checkout process and finding things in the menu.

User Journey Map
Paper/Digital Wireframes
The goal throughout this process was to create as many ideas as possible based off of the research done. It was also to try and create a clean and clear cut design that users could use easily.
The low-fidelity prototype shows how the app could possibly function before being refined.
Usability Study & Findings
For this project an un moderated usability study was conducted to figure out if the usability of the app was quick, simple, and easy to use.
Round 1
-
Users struggled to find the review order section
-
Users thought the “start new”, “add more” buttons were confusing
-
Users struggled to find the review order section
Round 2
-
The hamburger drop down was not on all pages
-
The layout was easy to follow
-
The information was nicely organized
Challenge One
While prototyping for the HoneyBerry Cafe app the core part of the design and the call to action buttons aided with the fluidity of the overall flow.
Challenge Two
While designing the app it was important to make sure the menu was easy to read, understand, and navigate. I made sure to utilize the white space and rows to make the menu look organized
Challenge Three
With having ordering apps becoming more and more popular it was important to make sure that the checkout process was easy and quick. This was done by using contrast in colors and fonts, and by using rows for organization.
This prototype shows how the app functions in real time. It shows how organized and how easy it is to use.
Accessibility Considerations
1
The use of properly labeled buttons, the overall consistency of the app, and a good information hierarchy is how I considered the use of screen readers in my design.
2
Making sure that there is a contrast in colors and text size throughout the app was used to make it more accessible
3
I labeled the icons so they
can be easily identifiable
for people who don't know what the shapes represent.
Style Guide
Takeaways
I felt that I learned a lot about the whole process of creating an app and what all goes into it. I really enjoyed learning about the visual aspects of the app and the user experience. I learned that by analyzing human circumstances and needs, it is known that apps cater for humanity and all of the struggles we face. Everyone is unique and apps should be adapt to
everyone's lifestyle. It was interesting to learn how much research really goes into making an app and I am so excited to keep learning and growing as a designer!
